President Barb Summer's Project
"Jared Box Project"
The story behind these special boxes is the desire of a little boy, Jared McNullen, from State College, PA in 1999. Jared was diagonosed with an inoperable brain tumor. To every appoint, he carried a backpack full of games, books, and toys to occupy his time. He could not understand why other children did not have the same things. So, he decided to share his things with others. His favorite game to play was UNO. At 5 years old, he demonstrated faith, wisdom, and compassion for others. Jared's battle ended in November 2000 while listening to his favorite song "You'll Be in My Heart" by Phil Collins. The mission of these boxes is to lift the spirits, entertain, and put a smile on the face of a child who receives them. A plastic shoebox is filled with games, toys, activities and encouraging notes from you. Gender and age appropriate boxes are created with love and shared with our local hospital - Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, PA. Check out the link: https://thejaredbox.org/
UPDATE:
Alpha Upsilon Sisters donated 26 boxes to the AHN Allegeny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights. Check out the article:
